We are thrilled to announce the launch of the inaugural edition of the ‘Tech4Her’ mentorship program (Cohort 1), an initiative of the Pastor Eskor Mfon (PEM) Foundation. The Tech4Her program is designed to empower young women between the ages of 18 to 35 in Lagos by imparting essential digital skills in areas such as digital marketing, web design, UI/UX, and data analysis. Our aim is to equip participants with the necessary tools to thrive in the modern job market and to promote gender inclusion within the digital sphere.
In Nigeria, and indeed globally, there exists a notable gender gap in digital literacy and engagement, with women and girls disproportionately affected. According to global statistics from 2022, 62% of men were Internet users compared to 57% of women. Additionally, only 19% of women in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) utilized the Internet in 2020, highlighting a significant digital disparity. Recognizing this challenge, Pastor Eskor Mfon (PEM) has launched the Tech4Her Project to address these inequalities and provide opportunities for women in Lagos.
Program Overview:
The “Tech4Her” mentorship program offers training in four fundamental tech skills, allowing participants to choose one specialization from the following options:
⦿ Digital Marketing – covering SEO, email marketing, graphics design, copywriting, video editing, and social media management
⦿ Web Design – focusing on WordPress proficiency
⦿ UI/UX
⦿ Data Analysis – including Power BI, Excel, Tableau, SQL Python
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for participation, applicants must:
⦿ Must be a female and fall within the age bracket of 18-35
⦿ Have completed at least secondary school
⦿ Possess basic computer knowledge, including proficiency in MS Word and Excel
⦿ Reside in Lagos
⦿ Be able to commute to the program location, as it is a full-time onsite program (transportation costs will be covered by the participant)
⦿ Be available for the duration of the training from June to September
⦿ Own a laptop (although applicants without laptops are still encouraged to apply as this won’t be the criteria for selection).
